Donald John Trump (born June 14, 1946) is an American politician, media figure, and businessman. He served as the 45th president from 2017 to 2021. Recently, he became the Republican nominee for the 2024 election. Now, he’s president-elect and will be inaugurated again on January 20, 2025. Trump graduated with an economics degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1968. He took over his family’s real estate business in 1971, focusing on luxury properties. After facing bankruptcy in the 1990s, he bounced back with new projects. From 2004 to 2015, he hosted the reality show The Apprentice. In 2016, Trump won the presidency as the Republican nominee, even though he lost the popular vote. His immigration policies included a travel ban on several Muslim-majority countries and expanding the U.S.-Mexico border wall. He also implemented a family separation policy. Trump reversed over 100 environmental regulations, signed the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, and appointed three justices to the Supreme Court. He initiated a trade war with China and withdrew from various international agreements. He met North Korea’s Kim Jong Un but made no progress on denuclearization. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he downplayed the virus’s severity and signed the CARES Act. Trump was impeached twice, in 2019 and 2021, but was acquitted both times. Trump’s style led to the rise of “Trumpism.” His remarks and actions have often been described as racially charged, racist, and misogynistic. He promoted conspiracy theories and made numerous false statements. Historians rank him among the worst presidents. After losing the 2020 election, he falsely claimed widespread fraud and attempted to overturn the results. This included his involvement in the January 6 Capitol attack. In 2023, he was found liable for sexual abuse and defamation, and in 2024 for financial fraud. In May 2024, he became the first U.S. president convicted of a felony. He faced more indictments related to the 2020 election and classified documents, but they were dismissed after.
